The Letterpress Workshop: Color Theory and The Printing Press 4/28/26
Learn the basics of color theory and letterpress printing as you study the analytical process of Paul Klee, the musician and artist who became a pillar of the Bauhaus. Together, we will dive into Klee’s notebooks, a visual encyclopedia of his mind, to understand his blueprint for engineering the modern art movement. We will practice printing overlapping color fields on tabletop presses from the early 1900s, exploring the opacity, density, and chroma of ink on paper.
No prior experience necessary. Skills include color theory, letterpress operation, and relief printing
Each student will go home with a series of geometric prints emulating a page from Klee’s own notebooks, and a deeper understanding of the color spectrum. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Guest instructor: Evan Christie, owner of Evolution Press.
