Two beautiful skills compliment each other in this new workshop: learn the ancient art of Japanese gift wrapping and the Shibori stitching techniques of Nui and Mokume. You’ll stitch three large organic cotton bandanas with intricate Shibori patterns, then dye them using natural dyes made from ground plants and iron to produce three unique colors. As the fabric simmers in the dye bath, we’ll explore traditional Japanese gift wrapping methods. It is the perfect way to add a thoughtful touch to any package, and is a gift in itself!
No prior experience with natural dyeing is necessary. Skills include: stitch resist dyeing techniques and wrapping techniques.
Each student will go home with their unique set of three colorfully dyed cotton bandanas and notebook with gift wrapping instructions. Snacks and beverages provided.
Guest Instructor: Christine Dennett of COMMAND knitwear, a naturally dyed fashion brand based in Seattle.
