The Cyanotype Workshop: Printing on Silk + Cotton

  • Piano Nobile 6615 Dayton Avenue North Seattle, WA, 98103 United States (map)

Cyanotype has been a beloved art form for over 180 years. Try your hand at this magical process, and create a stunning piece of wearable art! We’ll start with a brief overview of the cyanotype process, then use an array of pressed plants and other beautiful objects to make our first prints on watercolor paper. Once we’ve gotten familiar with cyanotype, we’ll let our creativity run wild and arrange big compositions on our 100% silk scarves. Then we’ll take turns printing and rinsing our scarves, enjoying the big reveal as each scarf emerges from the water. Along the way, you’ll learn more about cyanotype, its history, and easy ways to try it at home.

No prior experience needed with Cyanotype necessary. Skills include: composing a pattern, printing and harnessing the power of the sun.

Each student will take home their 100% cotton watercolor paper print, 100% Silk Scarf and notebook. Snacks and beverages provided.

Guest Instructor: Ollie Levy of Whalefern Arts. Seattle based painter, printmaker and nature photographer.
